Residents should be mindful of the importance of cautious driving during winter weather conditions. It is important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings, especially when navigating around City vehicles such as snow plows. Please be mindful of your speed and distance between other vehicles as you drive this winter; your patience during these times is essential in keeping people safe. If you find yourself behind a snow plow, please keep in mind that the driver has low visibility, typically 10 feet or less, and may not be able to see you. Please slow down and follow well behind the plow with your headlights on. This practice should apply to all City vehicles.
It is suggested that when clearing your driveway, you shovel the snow to the right when facing the street, this way what you have shoveled will not be deposited in your driveway by the snow plows.
Potholes get their start when melting snow or ice seep beneath the pavement through cracks caused by wear and tear traffic. Then the moisture freezes and expands below the surface. When temperatures rise again, the moisture melts, leaving a fap between the pavement and the surface under it. As the weight of vehicles continues to put pressure on those weakened areas, the pavement can crack or crumble, leading to the birth of a pothole.
The City of Jennings Public Works crews fill potholes as part of regular street maintenance and operations. Residents can help by reporting them. A good description of the pothole location, including nearest cross street, is needed. Indication the size of the pothole can also be helpful.
